WHO declares hantavirus a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by 2027

Due to the spread of the Andes strain of hantavirus (transmitted person-to-person) and the severity of the outbreak linked to the MV Hondius, the WHO will issue a PHEIC declaration by the end of 2025. This will trigger global health response protocols.
